The day everybody has been waiting for, shared with Surf Guide Algarve
As soon as September kicks off every surfer in the region is keeping a close eye on the forecast. Usually this is the time that the evil North wind slows down making way for better surf conditions. In the first place the conditions dit not get better at all. Obviously the surf guide algarve crew surfs every day but we had to really grind hard to do so. On the positive side, we shared almost all our sessions only with our crew and always scored at least a couple of fun waves every session. Yet this is the day everybody has been waiting for. Finally the wind goes offshore and a medium size swell promises all but goods. Enjoy the full story.
Are we still dreaming?
During the last few weeks we got up early everyday. Usually the wind only kicks in later, so do the crowds. By the time it is finally time to get out of bed its sure the east wind kicks in. Warm wind fills the house while a big cup of coffee and bowl of breakfast is murdered while watching the latest buoy reports. Often times these days are tricky. Because high expectations versus reality often equal frustration. Lucky for everyone today is totally different. If anything the ocean actually over delivered. At least in Castelejo. Waves so perfect I have to ask one of our surf guide algarve guests if I am actually still dreaming.
The best wave ever
Occasionally we all get these kind of surfs where everything seems to klick. Somehow you just do not seem to fall and waves just come to you. Vibes in the water are incredible and we all surfing crazy good waves. Barrels for those who are ready for them and a more forgiving shoulder for easier take offs and big turns. Epic. At the same time a serious workout too. Positioning is not that easy on a good size beach break and so is the paddle back out. One of our surf guide algarve guests calls it for the morning after another perfect wave and swaps his board for the camera. Quickly after I make sure he is okay I get the best wave of the day and most likely of my life so far. This peak no one wants a piece of all morning long but I decide to give it a go *for the photo… First I absolutely eat it on a too casual approach on this beast. Second try I drop in super late and fly under a head high chamber that looks way too deep. With room enough for a huge speed pump I fly higher in the tube and go low for a possible exit. Suddenly I am surrounded in a cloud of mist puffing from behind. So it happened, I got out with the spit. Dreams do come true at times. While the best memory is in your head I over the moon stoked there are a few shots of it and the crew that saw it and shared this moment.
