Surf Guide Algarve charging big waves and big stokes!
From time to time it is nice to push the limits a bit. Obviously we are not surfing Nazare but we have some pretty serious waves in our corner of Portugal too. Given the right conditions salt water can rise up to way above most surfers liking on the West coast of the Algarve. Today everything falls into place. Given that our guest is a regular and knows the spot really well. Add a light offshore wind and a relatively easy channel for the paddle out, Surf Guide Algarve is on. Charging big waves and big stokes!
Burgers or barrels
Even though I get him way less then when I was still teaching, the question still comes up every week. ‘What is the biggest wave you have ever surfed?‘ Somehow size matters for many people. Obviously a big wave is pleasing on the eye and gives a thrill to ride. However the biggest wave I have surfed is by far not the most scary one I have ever taken off on. Different from a big burger type of wave a barrel, even when its smaller, is way more scary to surf. Today we have two type of waves in the bay we surf. Big burgers and really scary barrels. Lets just have both!
Sharing the stokes
As been mentioned before, most surfers do not want any of this action. Even if the pictures may look inviting, the paddle is absolutely brutal and so are the wipe-outs. When a small crew of three absolute chargers makes their way into the line up it only gets better. Sharing the stokes with a handful of people and knowing we can help each other in case needed.
