Golden waves in Porto de Mos in Lagos with Surf Guide Algarve
Every single spot in our little piece of Paradise we call Algarve, has its own windows of perfection. A couple of years ago Surf Guide Algarve relocated from Lagos to Vila do Bispo. Closer to the west coast and where the most waves break in general. Obviously we will still drive to Lagos if that is where the best waves are breaking! Today we score gold, literally. Golden waves in Porto de Mos. Enjoy the full story and pictures.
The best stoke is shared stoke
As I paddle back from yet another beautiful wave I see our friend/ guest stroke for a beauty. Go Go Go! She drops in while I duckdive under the white water. A few minutes later she comes paddling back with the biggest smile on her face- ‘Did You See My Wave?! Shared stokes are the best stokes.
Not as easy as it looks
Whenever you open any type of anti-social media, you get bombed with- what look like – perfect waves. Yet we all know- or should remember, that to get to this seemingly perfect moment, a lot of hard work needs to be done. The brutal paddle, the early wake up, the sets on the head, these are all not on the picture! Take these pictures from Barranco. Obviously they are the type of wave every surfer will enjoy. Shoulder high with a nice face and staying open. Barranco is a fickle spot, the tide, direction, height and period of the swell all play in huge factors. Add the horrible road to get there. Today we get the bay almost private. By no means an easy surf. Big sets closing out over the whole bay. Rewards waiting on the inside on the medium sized waves. Again, its just not as easy as it looks!
