Surf Guide Algarve scores perfect waves and freezing our Christmas balls at Cordoama

Together with the Christmas decorations, the cold weather is finally here. Luckily the ocean in the Algarve stays more or less the same all year round. While this may feel freezing in summer, it kinda feels like warm when the outside temperature drops. Our German Surf Guide Algarve guest arrives one minute late for the first time in his life. Dude! My windscreen was frozen, I had to get the ice of it before I could drive! Interesting enough, due to some micro climates some part of this region get colder then others. Obviously close to the beach its not so bad. Plus who cares anyway when the waves are on fire. Surf Guide Algarve scores perfect waves at praia Cordoama with the VIP crew. *Yes we also freeze our balls a little bit while changing at dawn, but all for a good reason.

Only ones out

Whenever we do a dawn patrol mission we do not drive around looking for good waves. Although the ocean will be a little different every day, and the forecast always likes to lie a little- we kinda know where to score. In essence this must be the biggest reason why we surf solo most of the time. Crew that lives here & local surfers usually wait for conditions to warm up a little. Tourists are often more keen to get up early, but they need daylight to spot the waves cause they do not know where to go. As long as this works, we love it.

Props to the camera man

To begin with, we usually do not really keep track of the time when we surf. Instantly when you catch your first wave you forget about all this and in a way, that is more or less the whole point of surfing. Lost in time, floating around in a huge ocean, riding the last bit of pulses of swell. On this side of Europe, we often need to work for our waves. Paddling for a few hours really takes the best out of you. By the time the arms start to give in it is time for the famous last wave. From time to time we surf longer, sometimes shorter, but usually we surf around two hours. Whenever you are the first one in, and feel like it, pick up the camera! Usually the last waves of a session are not the best, yet you know we will do all that we can to boost a little extra for the picture. Big props to the camera man and VIP surf guide guest today. Temperatures on the beach still way low and he shoots all the action of this story with blue hands.
