Surf Guide Algarve officially starting winter with a session at Barranco

On this side of Europe we do not really do 4 seasons, it is more like summer and winter. Clearly summer takes over most of the year, but when it is time for rain to come, instantly you know. Winter is here. Algarvian roads, buildings and people are not built for this type of weather. First off the roads become dangerously slippery. Houses become moldy and damp. And to top all this, every person walks around looking angry at the sky like it has done something wrong to them personally. On the positive side of the story, we can really need some rain, a lot of it. At the same time, usually the rain goes hand in hand with waves. Surf Guide Algarve officially starting winter with a session at Barranco.

Time for South Coast

Generally we surf the South Coast a lot more in winter then in summer. From time to time there is the odd bigger day in summer too. In general it is West-Coast in summer. Swells with more period wrap around the corner of Sagres often creating more groomed waves. Since the swell comes from far away it also takes some time in between sets. Time it well and you get out with dry hair. Sounds good? Send us a message quick before the schedule is full.

Good vibes only

Around here Barranco is also dubbed Hippie beach, for good reason. Located on the end of a long dirt road it is for many an ideal place to camp for a few days *or weeks. Music is played, rocks painted, joints shared, Barranco is good vibes only. Also in the line-up. Possibly because the wave is of pretty friendly nature *if small, surfers of every level feel comfortable paddling out. Very good surfers mixed with pretty much beginners often creates a little havoc in other places. Yet here, at least when there are little people in the water, things usually work out fine. Waves are shared, people encouraged to go, and good turns celebrated. Surf Guide Algarve loves this place for every single reason, sure you do too.
