The Ocean is the actual Wavepool, real surfing with Surf Guide Algarve
Across the world wave-pools popping up like mushrooms in autumn. Occasionally on really interesting locations, they even opening one in the desert now! In essence they are a great tool to work on your surf techniques. Where every wave in the ocean is different, in the pool they are very similar, what makes practicing your moves a lot easier. Altogether there is a little debate if you can call surfing in a pool really surfing. First of all you do not need to have any ocean awareness or good positioning. Second if you surf a perfect “wave” all the time, how would you do in the actual ocean? The answer is, pretty good actually. Our current Surf Guide Algarve guest has very limited experience surfing in the ocean but lives very close to a wave-pool, where he surfs whenever he gets the chance. We take him on a couple of private adventures to show him the beauty of the actual wave-pool, the ocean.
Surfing is the whole experience
Opposite to what many people think, surfing is not only about the part that we sliding down a piece of salt water. Anticipating where to go, loading up the car, choosing a nice tune for the drive, its all part of it! Finally when changed in the always wet cold wetsuit, and paddle out. It feels a little bit like coming home. Fresh air, the sound of the sea, the wind, the waves. Quickly our new friend finds out the beach break setup we surf is a whole lot different then the pool. At the same time the reward when you do get a good one is so much bigger.
Life is a Beach
Sooner or later the classic moment arrives: it is time for the last wave. Luckily for our surf guide algarve guest it is a real nice one and we get it on the photo. (see picture above). By the time we are back at the car he just missed the hotels breakfast, but the rest of the day is still open for more adventure. Joining the surf fest in Arrifana on a foamy or maybe build a sand castle somewhere on the South Coast. Life is a beach!
