Sharing perfect waves, epic vibes at Castelejo on the first of June!
Suddenly its summer. Overall a bit of an overrated time of year, in the Algarve at least. As soon as the hills all go from lush and green to brown and dry, all of a sudden all prices go up. At the same time the Algarve is full of summer tourists. In essence not really surfers. Usually they like to visit this region when the waves are more consistent and the prices low- wintertime. Yet, for every rule there is an exception. And this story has got a couple joining right together. To sum up, a pretty much perfect size swell hits at the same time as the offshore wind *levante. Next there are three hungry surfers from all corners of the earth ready to share the Surf Guide Algarve adventure. Sharing perfect waves, epic vibes at Castelejo on the first of June!
Private line-up, a surfers dream
In the distance we see the groomed swell lines roll in at Praia Castelejo. Instantly our American Surf Guide Algarve guest is loosing it. 53 years of stoke, can not wait to get some quality waves on his holiday in Portugal. In the meantime our French guest, cramped up in the backseat cant see anything and has to wait till he gets freed from the child locked car. Quickly we suit up and check where we will score the best waves. Behind the rock, a little more sheltered from the strong offshore wind we find the perfect setup. Private line-up, empty waves, a true surfers dream.
Calculated luck
Sooner or later we all need a little luck. Meanwhile there are a few things you can do to not be unlucky. Even if the swell is good and the wind the right direction, you still need more to get a good session. For this reason we like to scout different beaches when we are not surfing. How are the banks? What makes it Epic
To begin with, you can not have an epic surf without epic vibes. If you can have an epic surf without epic waves is still under debate. Since we have them both it does not really make a diffence. Today is epic. Paddling back seeing your buddy drop another amazing wave. Rainbow spray from the offshore, blue water. We surf our brains out and I really want to take a few pictures to show you how we score. Boys, whatever you do, go Left! Obviously both mr. French and our regular both go right on their last wave. Altogether this is one Surf Guide Algarve session to remember.
